LINDSAY AMOS

THE NARRATIVE ARCHITECT. Cincinnati, Ohio origin. Ohio State University BA Communications 2010 (magna cum laude). Married to Ryan Amos (DailyBooth co-founder, YC S09, Airbnb acqui-hire). One of Square’s first 30 employees and FIRST communications hire (hired Nov 2010, via Ryan’s YC network referral). Communications Associate then Corporate Communications Lead at Square (Nov 2010 – Mar 2016, ran November 2015 IPO communications — same IPO Sarah Friar led as CFO). Facebook Technology Communications Manager (2016–2018, portfolio: global engineering offices, data centers, infrastructure hardware, sustainability — during Cambridge Analytica window). YC Director of Communications (Nov 2018–2024, hired same blog post as Holly Liu, 4 months before Altman’s departure). Now runs Amos Communications + The Platform Team (’embeds experts into VC portfolios to run tactical sprints’). Lives in Woodside, CA (Tier-1 SV wealth enclave, median $5-7M+). Self-described specialty: ‘advancing company narratives in the down-cycles between launches.’ Wikipedia handle: Opazazzyzen (personal pseudonym since 2010, NOT the professional @lindsayaamos handle). The January 27, 2020 Wikipedia scrub of Altman’s chairman claim was performed under this handle.

Career Timeline

•  Square [Communications Associate, then Corporate Communications Lead] — November 2010 – March 2016. One of first 30 employees. FIRST communications hire at Square. Hired through Ryan Amos’s YC network — no independent SV credentials at the time. Ran corporate communications through November 2015 IPO. Sarah Friar was CFO during same period (3.5-year overlap, 2012-2016).

•  Facebook [Technology Communications Manager] — 2016–2018. Portfolio: global engineering offices, data centers, infrastructure hardware, sustainability. This is during the Cambridge Analytica / election interference / infrastructure expansion window. Her job was managing the public story of where Facebook’s servers are and what happens when communities complain.

•  Y Combinator [Director of Communications, later Senior Director] — November 2018 – 2024. Announced in January 21, 2019 blog post alongside Holly Liu (YC China bridge partner). Both hired four months before Altman’s May 2019 departure. This is the staffing pattern of an organization preparing for a leadership transition.

•  Amos Communications + The Platform Team — 2024–present. Amos Communications: advises startup founders and investors on communications strategy. The Platform Team: ’embeds experts into VC portfolios to run tactical sprints.’ She is now selling the exact service she provided at YC to the broader VC ecosystem.

•  Substack ‘The Angle’ — October 2025–present. ~12 posts, all founder-marketing content. Zero investigative or AI-industry content. Public-facing writing does not touch her actual work topics.

The Opazazzyzen Wikipedia Identity

This is the primary investigation relevance of Lindsay Amos. The Wikipedia handle connects to the AltC S-1 chairman claim thread.

•  Opazazzyzen: personal handle since at least 2010. Used across opazazzyzen.com, Medium, Instagram, HN (2010 post as ‘the SO of a startup founder’), and Wikipedia.

•  @lindsayaamos: professional Twitter/X handle. Kept separate from Opazazzyzen.

•  The handle separation is DELIBERATE. Professional identity (Lindsay Amos, YC Director of Comms) and pseudonymous identity (Opazazzyzen) are maintained as separate personas across all platforms. The Wikipedia scrub was performed under the personal/pseudonymous handle, not through any official YC channel.

•  January 27, 2020: Opazazzyzen edited Sam Altman’s Wikipedia page to remove/modify the ‘chairman of the board’ claim. This was after Altman had departed YC (March 2019 ‘chairman’ announcement, actual relationship terminated early 2020) but BEFORE the AltC S-1 filing (May 2021) that listed him as chairman.

•  PRIOR-SESSION ANALYSIS: ‘She was not an amateur doing a slip. She was a senior communications professional using a personal handle to do quiet professional cleanup. The edit was her doing the cleanup pass that every new comms director does on a new employer’s public footprint — except she did it through a pseudonym instead of through an official YC channel.’

•  IN-ROLE BEHAVIOR: Her self-described specialty is ‘advancing company narratives in the down-cycles between launches.’ The Wikipedia scrub is in-role behavior consistent with her stated specialty, not anomalous. She was doing her job through a pseudonym.

•  NO CITATION: The Wikipedia edit did not include a citation or source for the change. A professional communications director making an edit to her employer’s most prominent figure’s Wikipedia page provided no sourcing.

•  THE NEWCOMER EMAIL (SMOKING GUN): Lindsay emailed journalist Eric Newcomer and stated ON THE RECORD: ‘the title/role never happened. I updated the information on our end (i.e. Wikipedia, Crunchbase, etc.).’ This email is the direct admission that (a) Lindsay made the Wikipedia edit, (b) she also updated Crunchbase, (c) she characterized the chairman title as something that ‘never happened,’ and (d) she described Wikipedia and Crunchbase as ‘our end’ — institutional property managed by YC’s comms team. The Newcomer email connects Opazazzyzen to Lindsay Amos by her own admission.

•  THE CONTRADICTION: Lindsay told Newcomer ‘the title/role never happened.’ But YC’s own March 2019 blog post used the word ‘chairman.’ The AltC S-1 used ‘chairman.’ Altman’s conference bios used ‘chairman.’ The title DID exist in institutional documents — Lindsay’s email characterization (‘never happened’) contradicts the documentary record. Either the documents were wrong or Lindsay’s email was wrong. Both can’t be true.

The Square / Friar Overlap (2012–2016)

•  Lindsay: Square Corporate Communications Lead (May 2013 – March 2016).

•  Friar: Square CFO (2012–2018).

•  3.5-year overlap. Lindsay ran comms for the IPO Friar led.

•  Both later moved to Altman-orbit organizations: Lindsay to YC (Director of Communications, Nov 2018), Friar to OpenAI (CFO, June 2024).

•  Two people who worked together at Square during the IPO now occupy positions at the two organizations at the center of this investigation.

The Holly Liu Hiring Coincidence

•  January 21, 2019: YC blog post announced BOTH Lindsay AND Holly Liu as new hires.

•  Holly Liu: YC Visiting Partner, China bridge partner. Co-founded Kabam (sold to Netmarble ~$800M).

•  Both hired four months before Altman’s May 2019 departure from YC.

•  The comms director (Lindsay) and the China bridge partner (Holly Liu) were brought in simultaneously, in the window before the leadership transition. This is the staffing pattern of an organization managing a public narrative shift.

The Ryan Amos / Conway / Chesky Chain

Three of the four people in Altman’s ‘Reflections’ footnote are tied to Lindsay’s household through documented chains.

•  Ryan Amos co-founded DailyBooth (YC S09). Brian Pokorny came from SV Angel (Conway’s firm) to become DailyBooth CEO. Airbnb (Chesky’s company) acquired DailyBooth in July 2012 (Airbnb’s first-ever acquisition).

•  This transaction linked Conway (via SV Angel’s Pokorny) and Chesky (via Airbnb) inside a single YC portfolio company that Lindsay’s husband co-founded.

•  DailyBooth seed round investors: Sequoia Capital, SV Angel (Conway), Kevin Rose, Caterina Fake, Chris Sacca. Series A: Ignition, Sequoia again, True Ventures, Lowercase Capital, Felicis.

•  Altman’s ‘Reflections’ blog (Jan 2025) footnote credits four people with saving OpenAI: Ron Conway, Brian Chesky, Paul Graham, and Oliver Mulherin. Three of these four are tied to the Lindsay-Ryan household through documented investment/acqui-hire chains.

•  SV Angel personnel rotation: Pokorny: SV Angel → DailyBooth CEO → Airbnb via acqui-hire. The same pattern of embedding VC personnel into portfolio companies that we’ve documented elsewhere.

Household Wealth Signal

•  Residence: Woodside, California. Tier-1 SV wealth enclave (median $5-7M+, residents include Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs estate, Neil Young).

•  Incompatible with YC communications director salary alone.

•  Household wealth stack (most plausible): Square pre-IPO equity (Lindsay, 2010-2015, first 30 employees) + Facebook RSUs (Lindsay, 2016-2018) + Ryan’s DailyBooth-to-Airbnb acqui-hire equity (2012) + potentially both spouses held Square equity (Ryan may have also worked at Square per Twitter activity).

•  REFRAME: She is not a staff-level communications employee. She is a member of the SV founder-spouse peer network who does communications professionally inside the network. Her institutional position understates her actual network position.

Nodes of Interest

NODE: OPAZAZZYZEN WIKIPEDIA SCRUB. Senior communications professional used personal pseudonym to edit Altman’s Wikipedia page. In-role behavior performed through pseudonymous channel. The edit cleaned up the ‘chairman’ claim that later appeared in the AltC S-1 SEC filing. She knew the claim was inaccurate because she worked at YC.

NODE: SELF-DESCRIBED SPECIALTY. ‘Advancing company narratives in the down-cycles between launches.’ This is literally the job description of the January 2020 Wikipedia edit. She was doing what she does professionally, through a personal handle.

NODE: SQUARE-FRIAR OVERLAP. 3.5 years at Square with Friar (CFO). Ran IPO comms together. Both later moved to Altman-orbit organizations (YC, OpenAI). Professional relationship predates both Altman-network positions by 6+ years.

NODE: HOUSEHOLD BRIDGE TO ALTMAN’S SAVIORS. Ryan’s DailyBooth linked Conway (SV Angel) and Chesky (Airbnb) through a single acqui-hire. Three of four ‘Reflections’ footnote people (Conway, Chesky, Graham) are tied to this household through documented chains. The comms director’s family is financially connected to the people who saved the CEO.

NODE: HOLLY LIU SAME-DAY HIRING. Comms director and China bridge partner announced together, four months before Altman’s departure. Transition staffing pattern.

NODE: HANDLE SEPARATION. Professional (@lindsayaamos) kept separate from pseudonymous (Opazazzyzen) across all platforms since 2010. The Wikipedia edit was under the pseudonymous identity by design, not by accident. A communications professional who maintains separate identities chose which identity to use for the edit.

NODE: WOODSIDE RESIDENCE. Tier-1 wealth enclave. Incompatible with salary. Household wealth from Square + Facebook + Airbnb equity positions her as a network peer, not an employee. Her institutional position (comms director) understates her actual network position (founder-spouse with multi-company equity).

NODE: FACEBOOK DURING CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA. Technology Communications Manager specifically covering data centers and infrastructure during the platform’s worst governance crisis. She managed the infrastructure narrative at Facebook, then managed the institutional narrative at YC. The skill set is: controlling the public story of what’s happening inside a tech institution during periods of scrutiny.

NODE: THE PLATFORM TEAM. Now ’embeds experts into VC portfolios to run tactical sprints.’ She commoditized the service she provided at YC and is selling it to the broader VC ecosystem. The narrative management expertise that cleaned up Altman’s Wikipedia page is now available as a commercial service.

⚠ TIP HANDLING GUIDANCE

Operational guidance for any journalist or investigator working this thread.

•  Do NOT approach Lindsay Amos for comment as the FIRST verification step. Her career specialty is narrative management. If contacted prematurely, she has the skills, network position, and institutional knowledge to preemptively shape the story before the evidentiary picture is solidified.

•  VERIFY INDEPENDENTLY FIRST through: Michael Seibel (YC insider, Graham-Livingston axis), SEC/Marc Fagel (AltC S-1 misrepresentation), Klein/Taragin (Loopt legal history), Paul Graham (public record of April 2026 tweets). Build the evidentiary picture from sources who are NOT trained in narrative management.

•  Hold Amos contact until AFTER the factual picture is independently verified and documented. A communications professional who can tell Newcomer ‘the title/role never happened’ (contradicting documentary evidence) will be prepared to manage any inquiry.
